Teaching Portfolio of Zahiruddin Fitri Abu Hassan PhD, MRISM
Senior Lecturer, Department of Building Surveying Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Malaya
I design learning experiences that move students beyond knowing concepts towards investigating real problems, interpreting evidence, justifying decisions, and communicating professional judgement.
My work connects authentic assessment, collaborative knowledge construction, technology-supported learning design, open learning, educator development, and institutional teaching leadership across undergraduate, postgraduate, and academic development contexts.

I design authentic learning experiences that develop professional judgement, and I extend that practice through assessment innovation, open learning, educator development, and institutional leadership.
Students work with real or professionally realistic problems. They diagnose building defects, investigate construction safety and health practice, observe organisational behaviour, analyse evidence, and make decisions in situations that resemble professional practice.

Students learn by discussing interpretations, challenging assumptions, producing shared artefacts, and defending their reasoning. Reports, posters, videos, field evidence, seminars, and gallery walks make student thinking visible and open to feedback.

Moodle/SPeCTRUM, H5P, Microsoft Teams, MOOCs, and online prompts are used as structured learning pathways, not merely as file repositories. Online preparation creates more meaningful time for discussion, investigation, feedback, and application during contact sessions.

These three dimensions are repeatedly evidenced across the final portfolio's teaching philosophy, course strategy and innovation sections.
